Dr. Larry Pugh

  Dear Friends,

Thank you for visiting our “B.O.B.C.” website. It is our desire to familiarize you with a unique body of believers, in the hope that, if you are searching for a home church, you will find God leading you to visit us. Our prayer is that you will ultimately find just the church God has planned for you- wherever He leads you to go.

The “Purpose Statement: of our church is, “Love God, Love Others, Love God’s Work.” Those three statements not only represent what we believe the Scriptures to command, but also how we strive to disciple Christians here at Black Oak.

“Love God” is the great commandment that Jesus Christ gave us. Through our worship service we try to faithfully teach Christians at every level how to really love God. Having a personal, intimate relationship with Jesus Christ is critical if we are to grow as Christians and be of value as His disciples.

“Love Others” is not only loving your neighbor as ourselves, but also learning to love “the brethren” as the Bible sometimes calls believers. That is done at Black Oak through small group Bible studies (Sunday School, Discipleship Training, special retreats and conferences, etc.). Through discussing the Bible we grow spiritually and also learn the instructions by which God desires for us to live. Small groups also give people an opportunity to learn to fellowship with other Christians and to learn co-operation in church ministries and projects.

“Love God’s Work” is how we teach people to minister. We have many “Ministry Teams” to which our members are invited to participate when they are ready to get involved in the work of the church. Our men and women helped a great deal with the building and decoration of our new education/office building, and over one hundred of our people of all ages help in our annual “The Meaning of Christmas” Christmas Pageant.

Personally, I think that one of the best things about Black Oak is the open hearts that our folks have for visitors and new members. Black Oak is truly a loving, and friendly church.

May God bless you in your pilgrimage with Him. God willing, perhaps we will see you soon.

Living in the Light of Christ’s Return,
  Dr. Larry Pugh, Pastor
